JUPEB is the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board. You spend one academic session studying three approved foundation subjects at a university-accredited centre, sit the JUPEB examination, and use the result to enter a degree programme at 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry. It skips a year. That is the entire proposition.
Almost every “official JUPEB site” is not oneThe genuine board site is jupeb.edu.ng. A large ecosystem of sites brands itself the official JUPEB portal, including jupeb.ng and jupeb.org.ng. None is operated by the board. They are marketing sites run by centres and agents. Any fee quoted only on one of those is a centre’s asking price, not a board-set fee. The same problem exists for IJMB, where the genuine site is ijmb.abu.edu.ng.

You cannot register with the board directly
JUPEB states this explicitly: you register for JUPEB lectures and examinations at one of the university-accredited centres, and registration at the JUPEB office is not permitted.
This is the structural fact that everything else follows from. There is no single application form, no single fee, and no single deadline, because you are applying to a centre, and each centre is run by a university that sets its own terms.
What it costs, honestly
There is no board-wide JUPEB fee. Any site quoting you “the JUPEB fee” as a single number is inventing it.
Two figures we can source properly. UNILAG charges ₦35,000 for the application form alone, non-refundable, published on its own site. A documented UNIPORT breakdown for 2026/27 comes to ₦197,000 in mandatory charges: ₦15,000 registration, ₦20,000 clearance, ₦150,000 tuition and examination, and ₦10,000 laboratory for science candidates. Hostel is separate at ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
Across centres, a realistic all-in range is ₦200,000 to ₦600,000. What drives the spread: which university runs the centre, sciences versus arts because of laboratory fees, whether you board, and whether the centre is a federal partner university or a private affiliate. Figures above the UNIPORT benchmark are not verifiable against any published schedule, so treat the upper end as a market observation rather than a fact.
The cost nobody quotes youA JUPEB result admits nobody on its own. You must also buy the JAMB Direct Entry ePIN at ₦5,700 and register for Direct Entry, which is sold only at JAMB zonal and state offices. Budget for it, and watch the DE window, which in 2026 ran 2 March to 25 April, well before JUPEB results were released.
The 19 subjects, and how you pick three
JUPEB offers nineteen subjects in three groups. You take three, and the combination must match the degree you intend to enter. UNILAG alone publishes 42 approved combinations.
| Group | Subjects |
|---|---|
| Arts and Humanities | Christian Religious Studies, French, History, Igbo, Islamic Religious Studies, Literature-in-English, Music, Visual Arts, Yoruba |
| Management and Social Sciences | Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Government |
| Sciences | Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics |
How JUPEB points work
Each subject earns points on a five-point scale, and there is a bonus that most candidates do not plan around properly.
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| A | 5 |
| B | 4 |
| C | 3 |
| D | 2 |
| E | 1 |
| F | 0 |
Three subjects gives a maximum of 15. You then get one bonus point if you pass all three subjects at grade E or better, taking the maximum to 16.
That bonus changes how you should approach a weak third subject. A candidate scoring A, A and F finishes on 10 with no bonus. A candidate scoring A, A and E finishes on 11 plus the bonus, so 12. Scraping a pass in your weakest subject is worth two points, not one.
Which universities accept it
Ten partner universities: UNN, UNIBEN, FUTO, UNIPORT, OAU, UNIUYO, UNILORIN, FUTA, FUNAAB and UNILAG. Beyond those, JUPEB lists 97 affiliate universities.
Affiliation is not a guarantee of admission. Each university sets its own points cut-off for each course, and a competitive course at a partner university can require close to the maximum.
Four limitations worth knowing before you enrol
- Results are valid for three admission years after the examination year. Generous compared with a UTME result, which lasts one.
- Two JUPEB results cannot be combined. If you sit twice, you use one result or the other. You cannot take your best subjects from each.
- JUPEB issues certificates, not transcripts. Institutions asking for a transcript will not get one.
- Results go to the centre, not to you. Your relationship is with the centre throughout, which is another reason to choose one carefully.
Checking your result
At jupeb.edu.ng/portal/portal, using your examination number and surname. No PIN, no token, no fee. Anyone selling you a JUPEB result checker is selling you nothing.
