NABTEB is the National Business and Technical Examinations Board. It runs the SSCE equivalent for technical and vocational candidates, awarding the National Technical Certificate and the National Business Certificate. A NABTEB result counts for university admission on the same footing as WAEC and NECO, and it can be combined with either. What makes it different is the structure: you do not choose subjects freely, you register a trade, and the trade determines most of your papers.

Your trade decides your subjects
This is the part that catches out candidates arriving from a WAEC mindset, where you assemble eight or nine subjects yourself.
A NABTEB entry is built in four layers:
- General Education. English Language and Mathematics are compulsory for everyone. Engineering trades add Physics and Chemistry.
- Trade-Related subjects, fixed by the trade you register.
- Trade Group subjects, also fixed by the trade.
- Electives, the only layer where you have real choice.
Pick the trade and most of your timetable is already decided. Pick the wrong trade and you cannot simply swap a subject later: NABTEB allows a maximum of three trade or subject changes after registration, and no biodata changes at all. Multiple or double registrations are invalidated outright.
Bring your own toolsFor practical papers, candidates supply their own tools and materials. NABTEB sends cutting lists to centres ahead of the examination. This is a real cost on top of the registration fee and it is not optional. Get the cutting list from your centre early enough to buy what you need, because arriving without your materials means you cannot sit the practical.
Fees, and one figure we will not pretend to know
The November/December fees come from NABTEB’s own 2026 entry guide: ₦22,500 per candidate for NBC and NTC, and ₦25,500 for the advanced ANBC and ANTC. Both cover the examination fee and result checking, which is a genuine saving against NECO’s separate ₦2,000 token.
The May/June fee is not verifiableThe entry guide currently published on NABTEB’s own May/June portal is headed “2025 MAY/JUNE” and gives ₦22,000. NABTEB has not updated that document. We cannot confirm the 2026 school candidate fee from any official source and we will not guess at it. Ask your school. Separately, NABTEB’s ePIN portal lists the O Level Nov/Dec examination at ₦22,000 while the 2026 entry guide says ₦22,500. Where they conflict, the dated entry guide is the better source.
Checking your result
Results are at eworld.nabteb.gov.ng. If you registered for Nov/Dec, checking is already covered by your fee. Otherwise a result PIN costs ₦600 at epins.nabteb.gov.ng, and gives five checks for one candidate’s result.
Ignore the price on NABTEB’s own FAQ pageNABTEB’s eworld FAQ still quotes ₦250 for a result card and directs buyers to Fountain Trust Bank, which has not existed since around 2006. That page is roughly twenty years stale. The live, purchasable price is ₦600 on the ePIN portal. Third-party resellers quote ₦900 and above, which is pure markup. Also note that nabtebnigeria.org, linked from NABTEB’s own eworld pages, is not an official NABTEB site.
Certificates are handled at digitalcert.nabteb.gov.ng. NABTEB publishes no replacement fee or timeline, so budget nothing and ask directly.
One deadline that matters and is easy to miss: complaints about a result must reach NABTEB within six months of its release. After that the door closes.
Where to buy PINs
Registration PINs are sold at NABTEB’s zonal offices in Abuja, Kaduna, Yola, Osogbo, Enugu and Benin City, at the Abuja Liaison Office, the Lagos Area Office, state offices, and headquarters at Ikpoba Hill in Benin City.
Note what is absent from that list: online resellers. Buy from a NABTEB office.
How NABTEB results actually perform
The 2026 May/June results were released on 2 September 2026. Of 97,863 candidates graded, 81.24 percent obtained five credits including English and Mathematics, up 13.06 points from 68.18 percent in 2025. Without the English and Mathematics condition the figure was 91.53 percent. There were 847 malpractice cases, 1.55 percent of candidates.
A high pass rate is not an easy examNABTEB’s 81.24 percent sits well above NECO’s and WAEC’s figures, and you will find sites treating that as proof NABTEB is the soft option. It is not evidence of that. The three bodies examine different cohorts on different syllabi: NABTEB candidates are technical college students assessed partly on practical trade work. Comparing the pass rates is comparing different instruments measuring different populations. Choose NABTEB because you are a technical or business candidate, not because you think it is easier.
Is NABTEB accepted for university admission?
Yes. NABTEB is consistently reported among the O level bodies JAMB accepts for result upload, alongside WAEC, NECO and NBAIS, and NABTEB’s own releases use standard credit language. It combines with WAEC and NECO results.
The honest caveat, the same one that applies to NECO: we could not find a JAMB page naming the accepted bodies. The acceptance is real and uncontested in practice. It simply is not documented on JAMB’s own site.
