What Cambridge costs is not one number. There is the entry fee, and then there is everything the entry fee does not cover, which is where candidates are surprised.
- Entry
- The most expensive route on this site by a wide margin.
- Set by
- Cambridge Assessment International Education
- Changes
- Each cycle. Any figure older than the current announcement is out of date.
- Not included
- Result checking, certificate services, practical materials and travel
- Free
- The syllabus and the timetable, published by the body itself
- Scam risk
- Highest at the point where a PIN, token or scratch card is bought
Cost against what the result does
The grade you buy here is a grade read by admissions officers worldwide without translation. This is the certificate you sit when the destination is outside Nigeria, and the portability is what you are paying for.
Weighed against that, the entry fee is rarely the number worth arguing about. Two series a year, June and November, with a formal enquiry-about-results process afterwards.
What is free and worth having
The syllabus and the timetable are published by Cambridge on its own site at no cost. Anyone charging you for either is charging for access you already have. Spend that money on past papers, or on the practical materials your school does not provide.
Budgeting honestly
Work out the total before the window opens: entry, result access, materials, transport for the full examination period, and a contingency for one verification request. A candidate who budgets only the entry fee meets the rest of the cost in the middle of the examination, which is the worst time to meet it.

What you are actually buying
Cambridge is the only examination here designed to be read by admissions officers who have never heard of Nigeria. That portability is what you are paying for.
Set against that, the entry fee is rarely the expensive part of sitting an examination. The expensive part is the year, and the second-most expensive part is sitting it twice.
Where this one is unusually costly
Cost, and a syllabus that assumes teaching most Nigerian schools do not provide. Entering privately without a school behind you is difficult in the sciences.
Frequently asked, briefly answered
Why do the figures online disagree?
Because fees are set each cycle and old figures stay published. Take the number from the body’s own current announcement, not from a blog post with no date on it.
What else should I budget for?
Practical materials, transport across the whole examination period, result access, and one verification request if you will need a result sent to an institution.
Where do candidates lose money?
At the point where a PIN, token or scratch card is bought. Use accredited channels and buy early enough that a failure is recoverable.
What is the entry fee?
The most expensive route on this site by a wide margin. Entry fees are per subject and set by the centre.
Does the entry fee cover checking my result?
No. Result access is generally a separate purchase, and it is the cost candidates most often forget.
Is the syllabus free?
Yes. Cambridge publishes it on its own site. Anyone charging you for it is charging for access you already have.
What the entry fee buys
The entry fee registers you and admits you to the papers you entered. It does not buy the result-checking access, it does not buy any certificate service afterwards, and in subjects with a practical it rarely covers the materials.
The most expensive route on this site by a wide margin. Entry fees are per subject and set by the centre.
The costs nobody budgets for
- Result access. Checking a result generally needs a token, card or PIN bought separately.
- Practical materials. Science, art, catering and trade subjects consume materials. Where the school does not supply them, the candidate does.
- Travel. An examination spread over weeks is weeks of transport, and a centre you did not choose may not be near you.
- Verification afterwards. Confirming a result to an institution or an embassy is a separate, paid process with its own document requirements.
- A second attempt. The real cost of under-preparing is another full entry fee plus another year.
The most common loss in this process is not the entry fee. It is money paid to somebody selling access to something the body publishes free, or selling a PIN that fails at the end of the window. Buy from accredited channels and buy early enough that a failure is recoverable.
