The entry route in full
Technical and business colleges register their own candidates. Private candidates register individually for the November series.
If you are entered by a school, understand what that means in practice. The school does the typing. The school holds the deadline. The school is the channel through which every later correction travels. A candidate who never sees their own entry before it is submitted is trusting somebody else’s data entry with their certificate.
What registration commits you to
You are entering an examination that is written papers plus a substantial practical or trade test that carries more weight here than in any other school certificate. Two series a year across the school and private examinations.
This certificate is the only school-leaving award here that proves you can do something, not only that you know something. A registration made without understanding that is a registration made blind.

Choosing your subjects at entry
Candidates take general education subjects alongside their trade or business specialism. The compulsory element is English Language and Mathematics, alongside the trade subjects.
Choose the rest by working backwards from the course you intend to read, not forwards from the subjects you enjoy. A combination that does not carry the subjects your course names is not a near miss at admission time. It is a disqualification, and it is discovered a year too late.
Registration is often done in bulk. Ask to see your own entry, on screen or on paper, before it is submitted. Correcting a wrong subject after submission is slower than choosing the right one, and sometimes impossible.
The five things that go wrong
- A name mismatch. The name on your entry must match your other records. Fixing the underlying record is not the examining body’s process and it is not fast.
- A missed deadline. Entry windows close on a date, not on a mood. A missed window means the next series.
- A wrong subject. Entered by somebody who did not ask you.
- A fake or failed PIN or token. Buy early enough that a failure is recoverable.
- Too few subjects. Count them yourself against the minimum.

NABTEB is the only Nigerian school-certificate body whose award proves a trade. A candidate leaves with a certificate an employer can act on, not only a ticket to further study.
